This is what you were waiting for, right?

Yay, here are pictures at last!

Here is a schoolroom full of singing children. =) All the schoolchildren in northern Ghana wear uniforms, and smile so sweetly even though, as you can see, they are quite crowded, four to a desk. It’s not uncommon for these classrooms to hold 50 or 60 or more children apiece. (I just counted the children in this picture – not all the children in this particular room by any means – and found there were 56 heads!)

We visited a village one morning – here are a few of the children. Note the ubiquitous goats, and the little child on the right holding her little sister on her back. You might observe that this girl (in a green and gray shirt) has a bare patch on her head. I was told that this is due to roundworm. =(

Pastor Tirumbu had asked me to bring balloons to share with the kids, so I was busily puffing away for a bit. =D Look at how the women are as eager as the kids to get a balloon! The poor little child at my elbow is looking up at the woman by her to see whether the next balloon will go to an adult or a child. The village pastor asked me (after I was besieged by quite a mob, even more than that in the picture) to please save some balloons for him to use in his church. At last, seeing there was no way out, I had to throw the partially empty bag at the pastor over the children’s heads before I could “escape.”

This little girl is one month old.

Aren’t these girls amazing? They are at most eight years old (most likely six or seven), and they are lugging around their younger siblings, trying to keep up with the little walking caravan that always seems to accumulate around us as we go around.
