“I'm so glad I'm attending these sessions,” Charles said of our discipleship course after we'd concluded one evening. “It's very important that I learn as much as I can of the Bible, because I'm going to be a pastor one day.” “Oh good,” Joel encouraged him, laying a hand on Charles' shoulders. “I'm glad you realize your calling so early and can prepare for God's plan for your life.” Charles explained to me the next day that he recognizes that his tribe – a “least-reached” people group – needs to hear the gospel, and with his cultural and linguistic background, he is poised to reach them. Furthermore, prior to his conversion to Christianity, Charles was a devout Muslim who had memorized most of the Koran (in fact, when he would accompany us for hospital visitation, he would often ask the patients' names, and would translate for us the meaning of all Arabic names we came across!). His background in all ways has prepared him to be a great Christian worker among his people! Please pray for him as he continues to grow in his relationship with Jesus.
Joel talked to me last week and said that he was able to speak again to the sixth-grade kids in Rashid's school, and in the teacher's absence, he led several of them in a prayer of salvation. Praise God for His continued work in northern Ghana, and please continue to pray that God would supply a friend and ministry partner for Joel now that I've gone.
I may post an occasional entry if I receive any further updates from my friends in Ghana; but otherwise, this blog will probably be pretty quiet until God calls me overseas again.
